Maternal periodontitis: A risk factor for preterm labour and low birth weight

Purpose: Preterm delivery and low birth weight is becoming the foremost crunch in India most prevailing public health issue developed developing countries. To prove confederacy between preterm labour (PTL) or (LBW) maternal periodontitis, a case control study was conducted among 30 puerpera women rural population. Methods: The sample grouped into cases controls based on pregnancy outcomes, include 15 mothers with babies includes normal term (greater than equal to 37 weeks) gestation (more 2500 grams), accordance postnatal records regarding weeks baby weight. Within 48 hours of parturition, periodontal status puerperal examined by Community Periodontal Index. Statistical analysis used: Epi Info 7 Software. Results: Pregnant disease are 56 times risk Chi-square value = 16.425 (p =0.000). Conclusions: This shows that there strong statistical association type periodontitis. Maternal periodontitis Hence, pregnant should be educated about motivated maintain oral hygiene proper instruction measures periodic dental visits.
